The Cartographer

Every morning a new street appears on a widowed surveyor's map, leading to a life he never lived. Today's ends at his wife's door.

In a snowbound Colorado silver town, county surveyor Abel Quintana wakes to a street on his map that he never drew, and by first light it is real, ending at the back gate of a life he never lived. Each morning brings a new street and a new version of his marriage to June, the wife he lost on the mountain pass a year ago, and each one erases a room of the house they shared. With five days until the anniversary, and one street that may end at June's own door, Abel has to decide what he is willing to walk into.

What did the first surveyor leave behind?

Vesper's founder vanished in 1883, leaving five streets on his plat that were never built. Why only in pencil, and why five?

Is it his to walk into?

If a street ends at a life where his wife is alive, is that life Abel's to take?
