Auto-renewal terms

The short version

Pledging costs nothing. If a film you back reaches $10,000 by its deadline, we email you, then charge you once 24 hours later. That payment is your first month (or three months, or year) of Beget Media membership. Membership then renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time, online, in two clicks.

What you agree to when you pledge

Before you enter a card, we show you this text with the film and date filled in, and you tick a box that is not ticked for you:

No charge today. If [Film] reaches $10,000 in pledges by [date], we will charge $12 to this card. That payment is your first month of Beget Media, which gives you every Beget Media film and series. Your membership then renews at $12 a month until you cancel, which you can do anytime in your account in two clicks. If [Film] does not reach $10,000 by [date], this authorization ends and you are never charged.

We keep a record of the exact text you saw, when you agreed, and the IP address you agreed from, for at least three years.

Membership added to a backing

When you back a film with an amount, membership is a separate option, and its box is not ticked for you. Ticking it is your agreement to the automatic renewal. For a $50 backing, the text reads:

Add Beget Media membership. Membership gives you every Beget Media film and series. Your first month is free and starts when your backing is charged, 24 hours after [Film] reaches $10,000. After that month we will charge $12 a month to this card until you cancel, which you can do anytime in your account in two clicks. If [Film] does not reach $10,000 by [date], membership never starts and you are never charged for it.

For a backing under $25, the first month is not free: $12 is charged together with the backing, then the membership renews monthly. The text says so:

Add Beget Media membership. Membership gives you every Beget Media film and series. If [Film] reaches $10,000 by [date], we will charge $12 for your first month together with your backing. Your membership then renews at $12 a month until you cancel, which you can do anytime in your account in two clicks. If [Film] does not reach $10,000 by [date], membership never starts and you are never charged for it.

We keep the exact text you saw for your backing and, separately, for the membership you added, and we email you both. Until membership starts you can remove it from your backing in your account, in two clicks, and keep the backing. A week before a free first month ends, we email you the date and the amount, with a link to cancel.

Prices and renewal

  • Monthly: $12 a month. A $12 or $36 pledge renews at $12 a month, starting one or three months after the pledge charge.
  • Annual: $120 a year. A $120 pledge renews at $120 a year, starting one year after the pledge charge.
  • Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax is added where the law requires it.
  • If we ever change a price, we email you at least 30 days before it applies, with a link to cancel.
  • Annual members get a reminder email before each renewal with the date, the amount, and how to cancel.

Cancelling

Open your account and choose Cancel. It takes two clicks, there is no call and no save offer. Your membership ends at the end of the period you have paid for and you are not charged again. You can withdraw a pledge, in one click, any time before its charge runs.

If a payment fails

If your bank asks to confirm the pledge charge, we email you a link to do it. If the card is declined, we email you a link to use another card and retry over seven days. After seven days the pledge closes and nothing is charged.

Refunds

Ask within 14 days of your first charge and we refund it in full. If a funded film misses its stated release window by more than 30 days, every backer of that film can choose a refund of the pledge charge or a free month. Outside those cases we do not refund partial periods, except where the law requires it.
